I wait for many things:
for snow to melt,
for God to answer a question,
for my lover to declare his intentions,
for my body to heal.
But Sunday mornings
I listen for the phone to ring
so that a grandchild’s voice,
travelling over great distances,
can bring me joy that lasts
long after the conversation ends.
